ONTARIO LONG TERM CARE PHYSICIANS
Our association of Medical Directors and Attending Physicians began in 1978 and was incorporated under the name "Ontario Association of Medical Directors of Homes for Senior Citizens” (OAMDHSC).
This was accomplished with the support and guidance of Mr. Lawrence Crawford of the Ministry of Community and Social Services. The MCSS found that in custodial care there were several unmet medical needs of the residents. The MCSS did not have medical expertise and Mr. Crawford was instrumental in bringing together physicians working in Homes for the Aged to dialogue with MCSS.
In 1996, with the advent of the Long Term Care Act, OAMDHSC combined with physicians practising in Nursing Homes and officially changed the name to Ontario Long Term Care Physicians (OLTCP) to better reflect the makeup of our membership, representing over 650 Long Term Care Facilities in the Province of Ontario.
